Worried you are not living an authentic life?#

Updated: Mar 18, 2022

real or genuine: not copied or false. Ever heard of the phrase ‘Be you?’ What does it really mean to be you?

Before we get to ‘being you’, let us get a basic principle here and apply it to all situation in this article where needed. That you can only treat the next person as good as you treat yourself.

Being yourself means living life how you want to live it, regardless of other people's opinions. Respecting you. Freeing yourself from people pleasing you’d say? Not worrying about what others think. If you like who you are, then that is all that matters.

That sounds fantastic right? But here is the twist. Have you ever recognized an action or activity someone did and went like “that was so selfish of them” or “that is really controlling”. Do you like that? I bet not. For you to like who you are, you must first accept that that you are human. That you have flaws.

Facing these parts of you that are not so pretty must be one of the scariest things to do in life. I mean, who wants to admit that they are passive aggressive or self-centered or controlling? Regardless, uncovering that toxic side is the first step towards living an authentic life, and above all towards discovering your spiritual path.

Would you admit to having double standards or to judging too quickly or you name it, (now that you’ve caught the drift). Are these not the traits that you would consider ugly if you saw in someone else?

We all want to consider ourselves perfect. The only thing wrong with this kind of perception of the life is that, you will be lying to yourself. And if you are lying to yourself, then you are most definitely lying to everyone else. Yes! You are living a lie!

We are not perfect. We all make mistakes. The difference comes in when one owns their mistake, because they are more likely to correct that and the other does not.

The first step to authenticity is accepting that you are human. In this context: Accepting that you have a good and bad side (I believe this is relative, but let us not get into that argument now).

To be authentic is to come to terms with your reality, accept your flaws and learn that everyone else is flawed too, trust me, you will feel like a whole weight has been lifted. Freedom. Would you call it?

Now, once you accept that you are human, and that you are flawed, it automatically pushes you start recognizing your mistake every time you make one. You catch yourself in the moment being judgmental or controlling or whatever your toxic trait is, and that alone is a win.

You can never hold anyone to a standard that you have not met. When you accept yourself for who you are i.e. human. Then you go easy on yourself. You love yourself more. You become patient with yourself.. To be better than the you of yesterday. That peeps, I call, Authenticity. The beginning of freedom and peace. And maybe even the beginning of your spiritual journey.

A spiritual journey basically means: a journey one takes to find out who they are, what their problems in life are, and how to come to peace with the world. Once you are kinder to yourself, you become kinder to others. And that there makes you humane.

Unless you are superhuman, you will never achieve perfection. But progress should always be your main goal.

Welcome to my blog. Let us uncover this together.
